Your awakening process takes you up the Tree of Life and through the Tree of Lies. Another way to refer to the Tree of Lies is “unconsciously”. There is no way to go up, in terms of enlightenment, without going down. Descending means awakening from dark, brooding thoughts and feelings rooted in unconscious identification with mental projection. You have to see your fear and what you are afraid of in order to finally realize that there really is nothing to be afraid of. As you clear away your fears, the light of loving reality gradually dawns. So let’s look now at the unconscious mind sets, represented by the Tree, which represent the nightmares from which we need to wake up. I presented them as negative affirmations that characterize every dark attitude. Although these statements may seem extreme, look at your thoughts and feelings when you feel anxious, discouraged, or frustrated to see if you are expressing them on some level. Remember that seeing what happens always lifts you above it, closer to the level of love behind everything that happens.
Sphere 1. “I must oppose the way of the universe and oppose my will to life in order to be okay. I must control everything and everyone.

When a frightening thought returns, observe your present experience of that thought until you see it as just a thought again. Also pay close attention to your feelings in the present, whatever you are feeling. Observing your thoughts and feelings in the present and dwelling in present awareness without thinking, gradually draws power from habitual, dark thoughts, sending that power into your awareness, where it goes to work on your higher awakening and liberation.
Exercise: Here’s a way to use the Tree of Life to align your consciousness with the forms of experience you want to attract into your life. Contemplate each stage of awakening represented by the spheres on the Tree of Life with your mind and heart open to receiving visualizations of the form of experience, the specific states, that you desire, according to the energy or attribute of that sphere. Follow the sequence of awakening stages again starting at the bottom of the following list. As you think about what you want, turn it into a prayer that asks for that state from the Infinite Power that determines what will be. While doing this exercise, you must let go of any impatience, anxiety, or frustration, as these indicate that you are actually projecting what you do not want beneath your vision of what you do want, which undermines this exercise. If you can’t imagine what you want without devaluing what is, was, and could be, don’t do this exercise and instead focus on clearing. Clearing will give you longer and longer periods of inner freedom when you can envision what you want with complete faith in what is, and without any sense of being caught or deprived in the present.
Sphere 1: Imagine that the infinite power that determines what will happen is aligned exactly with what you want to happen and that together you create the circumstances that ultimately fulfill you to the fullest extent.
Sphere 2: Visualize yourself and your life doing exactly what is necessary to achieve all that you truly want your life to be.
Sphere 3: Imagine yourself in a set of circumstances that match your deepest sense of understanding of what would be a fully satisfying, wonderful life for you.
Sphere 4: Imagine yourself in a situation that fills you with the knowledge that so much grace and love is at work in your life that you feel your heart overflowing with joy and gratitude.
Sphere 5: Visualize yourself without any form of waste, excess or distraction, living a life that seems truly righteous.
Sphere 6: Imagine yourself in an environment that is completely beautiful to you, living in a way that seems completely beautiful to you, receiving the influences of the absolute beauty of the scene to which you are exposed.
Sphere 7: Imagine the forms of victory, success, achievement that would cause the feeling that your life is a complete triumph.
Sphere 8: Imagine yourself in a situation where you feel completely worthy, honorable, filled with pure self-respect, without any trace of condescension or moral superiority towards yourself or others.
Sphere 9: Imagine that you are fully supported, that you have all the means and resources you could possibly want or need to live a fully fulfilling life.
Sphere 10: Imagine the life you want to live.
Ultimately, although it may seem unpleasant, it helps immensely and actually proves necessary to awaken the inner darkness. There is no other way to clear the darkness and expand the inner light of your liberation. To do this, take some time to observe what you are thinking and feeling in the present to become more aware of when you are:
Sphere 1: Resisting what is happening, was happening or could happen; attitude towards life as if it could hurt you; pitting your power against the universe based on the belief that you must have more control than you can display through calmness, poise and confidence.
Sphere 2: Doubt about the perfect wisdom that guides you and guides your life in the present.
Sphere 3: Perceiving life, reality, or your options as bad for you.
Sphere 4: Believing that life can be cruel, that you can get too little goodness, freedom, abundance or grace.
Sphere 5: Worrying about the possibility of losing or being deprived of too much or more than is really good for you.
Sphere 6: Considering the ugly possibilities of life, self, people
Sphere 7: Defeat, failure, disappointment are ahead of you or you are going your own way.
Sphere 8: You imagine yourself in a situation or perhaps heading towards a situation where you have to suffer humiliation or shame.
Sphere 9: Caring for yourself or others who do not have all the support needed for all that is truly best.
Sphere 10: Thinking, speaking, or acting as if things seem as they really are, that there is no spiritual dimension to your experience that provides you with everything you really want and need all the time, that your life can be any way, any time, to be anything but complete to you.
When you notice yourself slipping into dark thoughts or hearts, just observe your thoughts and feelings. Don’t resist them. The more aware you are of the present moment, the more energy you withdraw from self-defeating inner states and flow into an enlightening, liberating state of perfect trust and love for God and God’s constant deliverance through every event, which connects you to true fulfillment.
