Soy Scented Candles – Make Them Sweet and Unique

Soy scented candles are becoming more and more popular as people realize the benefits they bring. They are environmentally friendly, coming from a renewable source (soybeans) and not from its rival, the paraffin candle that comes as a by-product of oil refining. They have a much cleaner flame, emit less soot, last longer and are easier to clean than paraffin. Combined with a lead-free wick, you’re on your way to creating the perfect candle.

So, with all the benefits of soy wax, it has become an excellent ingredient for making candles. With a little thought and experimentation, you can create your own unique soy-scented candles with beautiful aromas to fill your home or make wonderful gifts.

Basic soy candle making is simple step by step. First of all, melt approximately half a kilogram of soy wax (flakes are easier to work with) in a steam boiler. Once that’s completely melted, remove from the heat and add about half an ounce of the fragrance oil of your choice (we’ll get to this in a moment) and mix well. Then add your color, mix well again. Pour the melted wax immediately into your prepared molds, with the wick in the center (wicks with a metal disc attached are often the easiest choice) and center the wick with a pencil. After the wax hardens and hardens, remove it from the mold (if necessary), cut the wick and enjoy! Remember to never leave the wax unattended while it is hot during the entire process.

The fun part is creating your unique scent and style. Search the web for great deals on fragrance oils, or if you have a good hobby store nearby, they should have a large enough selection. Why not consider a combination of complementary scents such as apple pie and cinnamon? Enjoy experimenting and create exactly what you’re looking for, although it may take a few tries to perfect this. If you prefer a stronger fragrance, simply add more fragrance. Then think about the color you want the candle to be. If your scent is chocolate, you may want to add brown to create an overall aesthetically pleasing candle.

With the scent and color chosen, look around your home for items that would make good molds. A pretty jam jar or a decorative ceramic flower pot are just a few examples of everyday things that would make great candles. A large variety of molds are also available online and in hobby stores if you prefer. If you’re creating a fruit-scented candle, consider adding a piece of real fruit to the candle, or if you’re making a coffee scent, add some coffee beans, but always remember to double-dip any additions to your candle in the wax: So before you start, dip that piece fruit into the wax and allow to dry before adding to the candle later. Cherries, raspberries, leaves, coffee beans are examples of accessories that will give your candle an extra wow factor.

Finally, to make it even more unique, why not consider a layered candle? My favorite idea right now is the seasonal candle. So if I start in October, I might want the pumpkin pie smell to burn at first, move to my second layer for November when I think the nice shortbread smell would remind me of all the pie baking, and move to December where there will be nice cinnamon the smell would be Christmas. It’s just an idea. If it’s spring, consider combinations of floral or fresh scents for bedding. A chocolate scented candle in an egg mold would be perfect for Easter. Be creative and have fun in the process.

Layered candles are easy to prepare. Divide your wax into three parts and start by melting a third of the wax and adding the scent and color you want to the bottom of the candle (or the top, depending on the type of mold you’re using). Allow to set until a film forms on the wax. Then prepare your next third of wax, carefully choosing the scent and color, pour it into your mold and then repeat this step with the final amount of wax.

With a little creativity, you can really create soy scented candles that are sweet (or whatever your favorite scent is) and definitely unique.
