RV Fulltime Living On The Banks Of The River – Inspiring Lessons From Nature

Full-time RV life creates many new found pleasures – freedom, adventure, relaxation… but the most wonderful are the inspiring lessons that come from nature while traveling North to South, East to West… or nesting down on the banks of the river.

There is pleasure in the wilderness of the forest

Rapture reigns on the lonely shore

There is a society, where no one intrudes,

Along with the deep sea, and music in its roar

I don’t love man less, but nature more

~ Lord Byron

We are currently based on the banks of the river – for three years now, we have been camping in a small private camp where we are sometimes surrounded by lots of happy adventurers and wanderers, and sometimes we are completely alone in our own secluded shelter.

Every day, every season, every sunrise and every sunset offers new lessons from nature!

We have suffered the devastation of floods, blizzards, droughts, hail storms and tornadoes. We are thrilled to see a barren winter landscape transform into new life, a canopy of summer leaves turning into shades of red, orange and golden yellow, a full moon turning the darkest night into day, a vast blanket of stars sparkling like diamonds.

Through all the seasons, we slept, walked, sat and worked with this river always in front of our eyes, always front and center to give us inspiration and courage… to keep going, never giving up on our dream.

When I sit by the river, I am undone and changed, drawn into its slow, rhythmic dance… carried away in its arms – all stress is released as I lose myself in its steady flow.

It’s amazing how lessons from nature are always thrown in front of our faces, for us to heed or ignore. This mighty river has been a source of inspiration, awe, reflection and strength as we live, breathe, plan and dream on its banks.

The following nature lessons are what I have gleaned from countless hours spent observing the river:

LET GO OF THE COAST: When you step with faith into the flow… when you let go of the fears that choke and suffocate and hold you back, you will move in the direction of your dream.

Along the river’s edge are piles of debris – dead trees and branches and trash that are twisted in a jumbled pile at the river’s edge. There is no action, no movement, no life in the stagnant pile. Suffocates, strangles and binds. You have to learn to let go of the shore – go with the flow where the water flows freely and no one holds you back.

STAY TUNED: The forward action you take, the step-by-step plan you follow – regardless of the obstacles that arise, creates momentum and results.

The river never stops – its water always goes towards a greater destination. Even man’s best attempts to control it cannot curb its power to overcome any obstacle. Never let anyone or anything stop you from achieving your dream.

REFLECT YOUR LIGHT: Choose to shine the LIGHT that is within you – be a spectacular reflection of hope, kindness and love for others. Keep the light on!

Every day on the river is different. The color of the river changes from dull brown to brilliant blue, depending on the light it reflects. When the sky is clear, sunsets are spectacular visions of purple, red, yellow and blue. When it’s cloudy and gray, everything looks just as boring. The magic happens when the clouds break and rays of sunlight emerge gloriously as promises of hope, assurances of peace. Reflect your light to do the same for those who seek.

RESPECT THE POWER: Your thoughts are more powerful than what you know and understand. Be careful with your thoughts, because what you think comes.

The local river rats who live on the river all their lives respect the incredibly strong current that the river has. It is not always visible to the naked eye, but they know the strength and power that lies beneath the surface. They take precautions when setting sail in their boats. They know how to watch out for piers, dykes and whirlpools. They are in a constant state of consciousness to be safe. Guard your thoughts, because what you think comes to pass.

FROM SMALL TO MIGHTY: There are times when you will seem small and insignificant in this world, but you have to understand… there is no one like you, with your story, your skills, your creativity, your ideas. The world needs you to come closer, stand up and be YOU.

This river begins as a small trickling stream and grows into a mighty river that flows into a magnificent larger river that carries itself to the bay where it joins the wide expanse of the ocean. Do something where you are, with what you have… and watch yourself begin to grow in power as you touch and change your life and the lives of those around you.

One day soon, we will leave this river and take the road to other beautiful areas, where mountains rise thousands of feet to the sky, where massive canyons reveal the depth of natural beauty, where sandy beaches calm and soothe the restless soul, where deserts share their secret beauty.

We will change the environment, change the view from the window, but the nature lessons we got from this river will stay with us forever.
